With spring around the corner, here is what you need to know about spring services and when they begin:

Table of Contents

Mid-March (weather permitting)

  • Fertilization – It is important to get some nutrients to your hungry lawn as the soil temperature starts to rise and the sunny days become longer.  We use a time released, all natural granular fertilizer that is safe for humans and pets.  This fertilization DOES NOT contain iron (which can stain your beautiful sidewalks and driveways).  This season we are also offering an purely organic fertilizer too!
  • Pre-Emergent – Hate that pesky crab grass that seems to appear overnight in April?  This product is a preventative product that needs to be applied before it gets too hot (which means the crab grass has already arrived in your lawn).  We recommend having this treatment in March through April to stop the crab grass from having a chance in your lawn!  This product controls both crab grass and perennial weeds, but DOES NOT kill broad leaf weeds – but don’t worry, we have a product that will take care of those too 🙂
  • Spring Aeration – Now that your lawn has had a nice long nap, it is time to wake up and get energized!  Just like we need a nice deep breath and some cool water on the face in the morning to wake up, your lawn needs a little excitement too.  With deep plug aeration, the lawn is “awakened” by allowing air, water and nutrients to get to the root system.  This is an excellent service to do around the time you schedule your fertilization and pre-emergent so that those treatments get injected into your lawn and absorbed by the root system.  Some folks think they only need to do an aeration in the fall, but at Erbert Lawns we say if you like your lawn you do aeration once a year, but if you LOVE your lawn you will do both a spring and fall aeration!
  • Weed Kill Rocks – Dang those weeds – and they’re already here?!  But it’s only March!  Get control of those broad-leafed weeds that are sprouting up in your rock beds and mulch now before they take over.  Just as your lawn is loving the longer days, the warm sunshine, and the spring water – so do the weeds that are eagerly ready to take over.  This product is a spray and needs to be reapplied every 3 weeks or so to keep those weeds in check!

Second Week of April (weather permitting):

  • Weekly Mowing – Can you believe it’s already that time again?  It may seem early, but the sooner we can get in there and cut off the dead grass the sooner your lawn knows it’s time to start growing again.  We have all heard from our hairdressers or barbers that the best way to keep our hair healthy and growing is to get regular hair cuts to trim the dead ends right?  Well, your lawn is your property’s “hair.”  During the winter months, snow has fallen, melted, froze, then melted again on your grass.  It needs a nice trim to get rid of the dead ends and now that the root system has been getting the nutrients from the fertilization that took place a few weeks ago, it is ready to get growing.  The same day you had last year will be your regular mowing day again this season, so we’ll see you starting this second week of April!

We hope you had a fun filled winter and a wonderful holiday season!  There are some exciting changes happening in our lawn care department this year and we are so excited to be able to take care of our customers even better and more efficiently.  Please rememeber that we are always here for you in the office, and would love to chat with you about any questions or concerns you may have as we approach another season.

We’ll see you soon!!!

Tricia
