Performing a liquid aeration to your lawn in the spring is essential to the root health of the mighty network of blades living outside your house. Without an aeration the time, money and effort spent to water properly and fertilize consistently may go to waste.
There’s a layer of dead grass that rests above the soil called thatch. When the thatch layer becomes too thick, water, nutrients or other lawn applications remain on top. They stay on the thatch layer and do not penetrate the soil. This means bad news for your lawn. Without food and water your lawn will likely not survive.
Now before you get scared and start researching how to de-thatch your lawn to avoid the horror I mentioned above, this is important: you need thatch in your lawn. Not too much, not too little. You need just the right amount. We’ve already discussed the negative outcomes of too much. Too little thatch leaves the roots exposed. When the summer sun shines down on the exposed roots your lawn is likely not able to survive that either.

We choose to do liquid aerations over the standard core aerations of our competitors. A core aerator is a big loud machine that pull up the plugs, there are chances of breaking sprinkler heads and chances of property damage, while leaving unsightly plugs. And if we’re being honest here, core aerations are just a bit outdated. Although you may have the healthiest lawn on the block, a liquid spring aeration will still be beneficial for your lawn.
How does it work in comparison to the old school method?
As the name suggests, it is a liquid application that goes deep into the ground to loosen the soil. A liquid aeration penetrates through the soil to create channels under the surface. The channels allow air, water and nutrients to flow, while aerating 100% of the soil. The enzymes in the liquid application are designed to break down the thatch layer. These extra ingredients of sea kelp and humic acid, help with the color of the lawn and the nutrient retention in the lawn. There is also a wetting agent which is what allows it to go deep into the soil. The mixture includes food for the microbes living within the soil to make the whole ecosystem within your lawn’s root system thrive. A core aeration may offer some immediate results, but the results of a liquid aeration are extended and last longer.
