The terms “lawn care” and “landscaping” are often used interchangeably by some of our customers. This can open the debate of lawn care vs landscaping. While both can be hired to do work out in the yard for you, the work very different.
Landscaping:
Landscaping focuses mostly on the appearance of the lawn and exterior of the property in general. This profession can be considered an Exterior Designer. The head of a landscaping job will ask the customer for their expectations and requests. They will either do an illustration or verbally explain their vision and come to an agreement with the customer.
The landscapers know what plants and features go together. As well as what plants are ideal for a specific space. If a company is hired to make over a space for entertaining and relaxation, they will avoid plants that could cause harm to children or pets and instead use plants that are safe while still being visually appealing.
Some landscapers even install fountains and other water features. They often will prune bushes and trees to give the whole space a fresh and new landscape. If it involves improving or changing the aesthetic of the outside of your home, you can likely hire a landscaper for it. There is usually a small team of people who work to execute the intended design for efficiency.
Lawn Care:
A lawn care company, such as Erbert Lawns, generally offers services that are specific to the health of turf grass. The heart of lawn care is maintaining quality, nutrient rich, non-compacted soil. Once the soil conditions are at their best, grass can truly thrive. Such conditions promote deep root growth and vibrant green hues. Healthy lawns deter weeds and pests. That’s what we are all about.
To give our customers’ lawns the best chance, we always recommend our Weed Control & Fertilization Program. With this program customers have a lawn care technician on their property on a consistent regular basis all throughout the growing season. Having the same set of eyes on your lawn every month will allow for technicians to quickly notice any changes with the lawn. They can take immediate action to diagnose the issue and create an action plan. These action plans are presented to the property owner to ensure open communication for everyone. We keep you in the loop so there are no surprises.
Our lawn care program consists of fertilizer, weed control, and season specific additions. In the spring a pre-emergent is applied to prevent broadleaf grasses, such as crabgrass, from germinating. In the mid summer a soil condition is applied in conjunction with our standard fertilizer to aid in water retention for the soil. Then in fall a winterizing agent is added to our fertilizer to encourage increased nutrient uptake before dormancy.
Aerations:
All customers, with or without a lawn care program, are eligible for our aeration services. We encourage both spring and fall aeration to keep your lawn in tip top shape. Soil can easily become compacted. It is harder for roots to grow deeply when the soil is hard. An aeration service is a sure way to loosen the soil and get it closer to ideal conditions for the grass. In addition, seed can also be applied with an aeration to fill in bare patches within a lawn.
There are other services we provide as a lawn care company such as controlling weeds within rock beds, Revive – a wetting agent applied in the summer, perimeter pest control, and winter mite control. There are other professions for outdoor work you can hire such as a lawn mower, gardener, tree care worker, and more. Call us today and we can set you up with the services we offer and give you some great referrals for the ones we don’t! We hope this helps with the lawn care vs landscaping debate.
